Présentation de l'étude de marché - Description & Table des matières
World Acrylic Trends in Demand and Supply 2008

The “World Acrylic – Trends in Demand and Supply” is the Fourth compendium from YarnsandFibers presenting the demand and supply trends in manmade fiber industry. Time series on trends from 1990 to 2007 on production, imports, exports and apparent consumption is presented country-wise for 13 countries including all major Asian countries, USA and West Europe.
In this Report we have assesses the impact of the expiry of the MFA and ATC and the scenario post-WTO in global manmade fibre/filament industry and natural fibres, particularly cotton, and how each country prepared and positioned itself in the global market. The analysis assesses the positions of fi-bres/filaments industry and their producers and consumers as events unfolded. Like in case of MFA, the period under consideration is pre-1995, for ATC it is 1995 to 2004 and post-WTO it is 2005 to 2007.
The purpose of this compendium is to serve as a basic information infrastructure for textile companies and to all those who are related to fibres and yarns industry. The compendium will also serve as a ready to use reference and the presentation help easy and quick consumption of the information.
The Report is divided into two sections: Global View and Region/Country wise View.
It begins with summarising the events and the Principles Guiding World Trade.

Acrylic staple fibre accounts for 6% of all manmade fibre supply globally next to polyester and nylon. Over the past 17 years capacity addition has been extremely poor compared to other fibres. Since 1990, a net of only 140,000 tons was added. This is the lowest amongst all man-made fibres. Over 710,000 tons was pulled out of production in last 10 years. In 2007, alone 300,000 tons of capacity was derated. As of end-2007, the global capacity stood at 3 million tons as against 2.8 million tons in 1990 and 3.4 million tons in 2000. The reasoning behind this trend is that it faces severe competition from natural fibre, wool, both in terms of price and quality. The second attributes is its limited usage unlike polyester or nylon. The third and most importantly, thin margins have distracted investment
During the pre-ATC period (1990-1994) capacity addition declined 1% per annum which turned posi-tive 1% during the ATC period (1995-2004). However, post WTO the rate of dropped to -0.2% between 2005 and 2007.
Despite the sluggish capacity expansion, production growth has been impressive. Production increased 4% per annum during the pre-ATC period when capacity expansion recorded decline of 1% per annum. During ATC, when capacity addition was at a meager rate of less than 1% per annum, production increased 2.1% a year. However, post WTO production was failed to grow positively in any of the 3 years.
