The report sums up the development of the global and Chinese notebook industry in 2004. The report especially points out the following: China has yet to form a complete notebook industry chain. Most domestic brands adopted OEM. Out of cost pressures and lured by the market in mainland China, most Taiwan manufacturers have transferred their production facilities to the Chinese mainland. Thanks to this, China will become a global notebook production base. There was an intense competition among OEM vendors and the level of average profit in the industry has dropped. There was also a sharp decrease in the price of accessories like chip and LCD panel, leaving room for further notebook price cuts. Competition among notebook brands was intense, making profits fall. The industry is now being reshuffled.
