 Facilities Management in Germany 2006

Facility Management: A €218 billion market in the UK, Germany, France, Italy & Spain
The total market for external Facility Management in the Top 5 European countries has continued to maintain upper single-digit growth rates and recently reached €218 billion. In 2005 the total market expanded over 8%, as the FM sector remains lucrative in each of the Top 5 markets. Ac-cording to the current study, each of the markets are in different stages: the United Kingdom is clearly the largest FM market in the Top 5, Ger-many the most developed, and the smaller Spanish market continues to grow at the fastest rate (15.3%).
Facility Management (FM) landed in Europe in the mid 1980s as a new form of outsourcing “non-core” activities. Most companies began by outsourcing single services such as clean-ing, catering, and security, but the idea soon grew into the technical and entrepreneurial ser-vice arenas as well. FM companies are now beginning to offer complex, integrated pack-ages with many different types of services and the concept has become a highly focused discipline for managing people, buildings, property, processes, and technology.
