In Spain, the market for clothes-washing products is mature and well established. Suppliers of leading brands launch new products on an almost constant basis. Own-label retailers respond quickly to new product development, by introducing their own versions of economy-priced alternatives. Sales have benefited from growing demand for new value-added products, which is a result of economic growth and increasing consumer expenditure, together with population growth and rising female employment. 95.7% of households in Spain own a washing machine according to TGI Europa data.
Research has shown that over half of Spanish consumers surveyed are prepared to pay more for environmentally friendly products, and that over 70% believe that consumers have a duty to recycle. It is evident that there is scope for suppliers to develop environmentally friendly clothes-washing products in recyclable packaging containers.
