| Consumer Credit in Germany 2006 |
|
|
Introduction Short report analyzing the consumer credit market in Germany. Covers market size, trend analysis, market forecasts, competitor market shares and key regulatory and competitor developments in the market.
Scope Covers the consumer credit market (not including any loans secured on property) Provides market sizing data in terms of gross advances and balances outstanding Provides competitor market share for the top five players in terms of balances outstanding; a short profile of the top players is also provided Provides competitor market share for the top five credit card lenders in terms of balances outstanding Highlights The German consumer credit market has seen slow growth in recent years. A number of factors have contributed to this including poor economic performance, persistent unemployment, low consumer confidence, a culture that is adverse to debt and promotes work, discipline and saving and poor credit card penetration.
The fall in new lending of consumer credit in 2005 was caused in part by the uncertain political situation that prevailed at the time this caused consumer confidence to fall even further. However, the political situation is now resolved and a recovery in the consumer credit market can now be expected.
As in many other European countries, personal loans are the leading consumer credit product. In Germany, consumers have a strong affinity to their branch particularly in areas that are more rural. This close relationship means that when Germans need finance for purchases a personal loan from their local branch is often the option they choose.
Reasons to Purchase Learn how the German consumer credit market has developed over the last five years Understand the recent developments in the market in terms of regulation, competition and product innovations Find out Datamonitor's opinion on the future performance of the German consumer credit market over the next five years and its future prospects
