| UK Self-build Mortgages 2006 |
|
|
Introduction
Despite growing popularity, self-build still remains the choice of preference for a small group of homeowners only. Scope
Analyzes the size of the UK self-build mortgage market.Looks at drivers and trends.Provides market forecasts under three different scenarios.
Highlights
Exhibitions and press and TV coverage about self-build and renovation have increased significantly over the years. Indeed, various TV programmes such as Channel Four's Grand Designs have assisted in raising awareness and creating interest among the public.
Based on a number of sources such as secondary research, interviews with industry experts and number of VAT claims by DIY house builders, Datamonitor estimates that the number of self-builds in 2005 amounted to 19,400, representing an increase of 4.3 per cent over 2004 (18,600).
Roughly a third of all mortgage lenders in the UK offer self-build mortgages. Moreover, the number of self-build mortgage lenders has hardly changed over the years.
