| Petrochemical Manufacturing in the US |
|
|
This is the replacement to IBISWorld's May 2006 edition of Petrochemical Manufacturing in the US report. This report from IBISWorld provides a detailed analysis of the Petrochemical Manufacturing industry in the US, including key growth trends, the competitive environment and the key issues facing the industry. Industry Definition This industry comprises management units primarily engaged in the manufacture of petrochemicals; used for a variety of commercial purposes, these are chemicals derived from petroleum and natural gas. This report is concerned with the production of acyclic/aliphatic and cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons where the term hydrocarbon refers to an organic compound containing only carbon and hydrogen. Aliphatic means that the hydrocarbon has only hydrogen and carbon atoms while aromatic means that there is a delocalization of electrons in a ring around the system resulting in greater chemical stability. Key products include ethylene, propylene, butylenes, benzene, toluene, styrene, xylene, ethyl benzene, and cumene. Manufactured from refined petroleum or liquid hydrocarbons sourced from the upstream oil and gas extraction industries, these products are basic building blocks utilized in the production of a wide variety of products including consumer products, automotive components and various durable and non-durable goods.
