Présentation de l'étude de marché - Description & Table des matières
Global market review of Champagne – forecasts to 2010

With rising sales at home and abroad, and revenues also on the increase, the French wine industry is casting envious glances at Champagne in 2006. It's the saving grace of an industry that is currently suffering amid the global oversupply of wine.

This 2007 edition of the Global market review of Champagne provides market-by-market volume and value forecast data to 2010 for all the major Champagne markets worldwide, covering France, UK, US, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Australia and the Netherlands. New analysis and forecast data also focuses on developing-markets Russia, China and India.

Interviews with executives from the top fourteen players in the champagne market are combined with commentary providing data on individual company turnover, domestic/export split, major markets, brands owned and vineyard holdings.

Chapter 1: Introduction. So many in the Champagne sector are enjoying prosperity, but as ever in the region, that prosperity rests on a knife-edge. Sales increases have put pressure on grape supplies for the past three to four years, pushing up prices and threatening a repeat of the crash of the early 1990s. Hopefully, some intelligent proposals - to increase the appellation in the long term, and to increase yields immediately while safeguarding quality - should help prevent history repeating itself.

Chapter 2: The Markets. This chapter includes an analysis of the major champagne producing countries and provides commentary from key executives. The long-term potential of emerging markets Russia, China and India is also covered.
Volume and value forecasts to 2010, broken down by individual country are also provided in this chapter.

Chapter 3: The Companies. This covers the top 14 companies in Champagne, accounting for all the major négociant businesses in the region. The companies, namely: Moet Hennessy, Boizel Chanoine Champagne (BCC), Vranken Pommery Monopole, Laurent-Perrier, Centre Vinicole, Nicolas Feuillatte, Pernod Ricard, Rémy Cointreau, Groupe Tiénot, GH Martel, Taittinger, Alliance Champagne, Louis Roederer, Duval-Leroy and Bollinger are listed in order of last recorded annual turnover (in most cases, 2005).

Chapter 4: Production. This chapter includes of brief overview of the 2006 harvest. It also takes a look at supply and demand, and how rising demand for Champagne is fuelling an increase in the price of grapes.

Chapter 5: The value question. When not discussing how to balance supply and demand, and how to stop grape prices spiraling out of control, you will hear a lot of talk from the Champagne houses on how to build more value into their business.
Perhaps the most obvious way of doing this is for houses to introduce their own prestige cuvée, designed to tap into a market where the likes of Dom Pérignon, Cristal and Krug have been so successful in the recent past.

Chapter 6: Role of the co-ops. The role of the Champagne co-operative has changed immeasurably since they were set up to protect vulnerable growers from the vagaries of the market, offering them economies of scale, services, a voice of their own and an alternative to selling their grapes direct to a négociant.

Chapter 7: Global Warming. Climate change - whatever its cause - is affecting the Champagne sector. So far it has, if anything, proven more positive than negative in giving a more consistent, higher-quantity crop. Read more about global warming in this chapter.
