 Leading Local ISV's & SI's in India's Media & Entertainment Industry

This document identifies and analyzes the leading local independent software vendors (ISVs) and system integrators (SIs) serving India’s media and entertainment (M&E) industry. To put this analysis in context, we have provided a brief overview of the Indian M&E industry and its leading IT trends.

This study drew from a survey of 80 interviews with CIO’s, business heads and IT managers at leading Indian M&E companies. In addition, the methodology leveraged for this report included extensive secondary research and interviews with leading IT solution providers in the market.

Executive Summary
The Indian M&E industry, estimated at US $6.25 billion in 2006, is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Indian economy. Thanks to an expanding economy that has spawned a significant middle class population and increased consumer spending, M&E is expected to grow with the economy, which shows no signs of slowing down.
Springboard Research data shows that Indian M&E companies are on the verge of an IT infrastructure overhaul, guided by the sector’s new business opportunities and challenges, such as the shift to digital content distribution and storage. As M&E companies strive to meet the public’s digital information and entertainment demands in an increasingly competitive landscape, these companies are pushing for technological innovations that enable cutting-edge services for their customers and greater efficiencies for themselves.

In our comprehensive review, Springboard Research has identified the following five key market characteristics that define India’s IT in M&E industry:
- IT Market in Media & Entertainment Sector Will Continue to Grow Significantly: In 2005, IT market size in India’s M&E sector measured US $79 million. Springboard Research expects the market to grow at a CAGR of 32% to reach US$300 million by 2010.
- M&E’s Urgency to Reach New Markets is Guiding IT Investments: As the current economic boom in India travels to small cities and towns beyond large metropolitan areas, reaching new customers in these locations is high on the agenda of most media and entertainment companies.
- Digitization and Streamlining Content Delivery and Distribution is Top Strategic Focus for M&E Companies: Awareness that digitization enables reliable content storage and archiving, and opens new business channels is highest among print media and music companies.
- M&E Companies are Focused on Industry-Specific Solutions: Of the 80 media and entertainment companies that Springboard Research interviewed for this report, 47% said they have implemented industry-specific solutions as their largest IT solution.
- Local IT Vendors Have a Significant Presence in India’s M&E Market: Springboard Research estimates that local vendors have a 35% share in the IT market for the M&E segment. Among the multi-national corporate (MNC) vendors, IBM was the most sought-after IT vendor by media and entertainment companies.
