|
|
Euro was introduced as the single European currency in 11 EU countries on 1st January 1999, and in Greece on 1 January 2001. By the end of July 2002, the Euro will replace the various national currencies of the eleven member countries participating in European Monetary Union (EMU). Once the Euro becomes fully operational, its main effect will be on pricing and payment for goods and services. Within the Euro-zone, there will be no more exchange rate risk or foreign exchange conversion costs, as prices will be quoted in common currency. By eliminating currency conversion cost and facilitating price comparisons, the Euro would make travelling in Europe simpler and cheaper and thus provide a boost to the various industry sectors in Europe.
