years consumer spending on clothing in France has shown sluggish growth, lifting
by a mere 1.4% overall compared to a rise in total spending levels of 16.3%. This
can mostly be attributed to the intense price competition that has grown up in
France over recent years with particular price-led fast fashion players like H&M
and Inditex shifting the competitive agenda to fashion combined with value.
Clothing specialists
continue to dominate the market, accounting for some 65% of spending followed
by the grocers with a share of around 12%. However, clothing specialists have
