Bord Gais is wholly owned by the Government of Ireland. Its primary activities are procurement and supply of gas and electricity, and the development and operation of the gas transportation network in both the Republic of Ireland and the UK.

The company recorded revenues of E1,107.8 million during the fiscal year ended December 2006, an increase of 29.3% over 2005. The increase in revenues was mainly due to increase in the volume of gas supplied to customers in Ireland.

It has a transmission pipeline network of 2,169 kilometers (km), which is linked to the UK and Continental gas markets through two interconnector pipelines. The company transports natural gas to over 140 population centers within 18 counties throughout the country and there are over 575,000 gas users in Ireland.
