Aviva's Norwich Union Insurance (NUI) is a leading general insurer in the UK, with a market share of 15% at the end of December 2006. NUI is placed in the top two positions in all its major asset classes in UK's general insurance market. NUI has a market share of 10.9% in UK's protection market, 9.9% market share in pensions and 13.8% in annuities.

Apart from the UK, Aviva has strong presence in continental Europe. It ranks second in the Spanish life insurance sector and is the largest pension provider in Poland.
